This week I officially enter the last month of my pregnancy. I can’t believe how quickly time has gone by and before it’s too late, I thought I’d share some details from my baby shower a month ago that was an absolute dream. In September, I began to look for venues and settled on having the shower in between the holidays, in case Baby V decided to make an early appearance–because let’s face it babies will come when they want. I also wanted to make sure that I was comfortable and not too tired, and at 36 weeks of pregnancy, I’m glad I made that decsion. 3rd-trimester fatigue is real.
Planning a baby shower seemed so daunting, especially for a detailed oriented perfectionist like me. I had no idea where I wanted the baby shower to be, I just knew that I wanted it to be co-ed. A friend suggested I search on peerspace and search for venues. At that point, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to have the shower at a restaurant, a house, or venue, thankfully peerspace has a little bit of everything.
I instantly fell in love with a venue in Burbank called Violet Cactus, even though it was almost 30 miles from where we lived. The venue provided 15 min tours, so on a whim on a Sunday, we decided to take a drive.
As soon as I entered the space, I fell in love; there was a whimsical, bright Parisian vibe, and the best part is that it for an additional fee it came with all of the rentals, which included the tableware, glassware, and setup.
We opted for a long table set up that seated 30 people. Before our event, Violet Cactus sent me a questionnaire to fill out that was very detailed. I worked with Krystal, who was very professional and answered all of my questions promptly.
I decided to get additional help decorating the space, which featured two green walls. My theme was minimalist with touches of pinks and golds. I also envisioned a floral wall. Design of mine did a beautiful job bringing my vision to life by creating paper florals and adding soft pink flowers to the tables.
Two of my closest friends added more details to the venue. One of my favorite decorations was the “It”s a girl” balloon that’s now become part of my home decor. Fingers crossed that it stays inflated until the baby decides to make her appearance!
Because of my background in production, I decided to create a timeline of how the day would go. I wanted to make sure that I had all the pictures I wanted as well as being mindful of our guest’s time. With the help of my wonderful girlfriends, we were able to stick to the timeline and get everything completed.
Since we had our shower between 11-3 pm, we decided on having a buffet-style drink/food setup that featured sandwiches, vegetables, fruits, water, and wine.
We catered from pavilions and ordered our cake from our favorite bakery Sweet Lady Jane. We had the Triple Berry Cake, which has been our go-to cake for a few years. We love it so much we had it for our gender reveal, so of course, it had to be included in our baby shower!
Food & Drinks
I wanted to provide my guest with a useful party favor, so after some research, I decided on candles. I ordered small tea candles from Amazon and created the labels via Zazzle. Since the candles didn’t have a scent, I poked a few holes in each of the candles and added lavender essential oil.
Dress: I picked a long dress to hide my broken foot and boot 🙂
Games: This was a fun game that got everyone moving. It was so much fun there were two winners!
Guess baby bump size
The other game we had was an Emoji Pictionary game which was actually a lot harder then it sounds!
An excellent way to keep a memento of advice from friends

Our shower was everything I wanted, and more. I’m so thankful for the friends who helped and attended. I couldn’t have imagined a perfect way to celebrate the upcoming arrival of Baby V, then being surrounded by my closest friends. Simon and I are so excited to meet our love!
